This desk was a quick little projectI bought it thinking it was a five drawer vanity. My original plan was to add a mirror and a fun little stool. But unfortunately, it was only 3 drawers and one of them had a divider so I decided to just leave it as a desk.So I started sanding. And sandingAnd sanding. So. Much. Sanding. It was beautiful cherry wood!I tried using minwax Polyshades in espresso. Rather than giving it the rich brown I was hoping for, it went almost black and it was pretty blotchy. I checked it again in twelve hours and it’s still didn’t cure. It was still super sticky and I was not happy with it at all.So I used sandpaper and steel wool to remove the finish. I still couldn’t get it completely clean again, so in the end, I decided to paint the whole thing. I sanded down the rest of the desk and the drawers. My first coat of paint! This color of brown took three coats which was kind of a pain. I expect better coverage from Behr Premium Plus.I normally choose cool colors or bright fun shades so this brown was a little outside my comfort zone but I still think it turned out pretty nice! A few coats of Minwax Polycrylic to protect the top and it’s done! After looking at it for a few weeks, I decided to try again. I sanded the top down to bare wood and refinished it with Minwax Polyshades in Espresso. I also repainted the body in Perfect Taupe and I love the transformation!
